Nota

Para poder actualizar un sistema con Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 ya instalado a Update 4, debe utilizar Red Hat Network para actualizar aquellos paquetes que han cambiado.

Usted puede utilizar Anaconda para realizar una instalación fresca de Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 o para actualizar la última versión de Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.

  • Si está copiando los contenidos de los CD-ROMs de Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 (si se está preparando para una instalación basada en la red, por ejemplo), asegúrese de copiar solamente los CD-ROMs del sistema operativo. No copie los CD-ROMs de Extras ni ninguno de los CD-ROMs complementarios, pues esto sobreescribirá archivos que son necesarios para la operación correcta de Anaconda.

    Estos CD-ROMs se deben instalar después de que se haya instalado Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Esta sección contiene información general que no es específica a ninguna otra sección de este documento.

  • Desde Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4, Mozilla Suite ha sido reemplazada por Seamonkey, el conjunto de aplicación de Internet de Mozilla Foundation que incluye un navegador de web, cliente de correo-e y grupos de noticias, cliente de IRC chat y editor HTML. Se le recomienda a los usuarios de la suite Mozilla realizar la transición a Seamonkey, el cual ofrece las misma funcionalidades y comparte el mismo código base de "Mozilla Application Suite". Mozilla Suite no será mantenido por Mozilla Foundation y por lo tanto no habrán actualizaciones regulares de soluciones de errores y seguridad.

    Aunque este cambio no tendrá repercusiones inmediatas en los usuarios (diferente a asegurar la disponibilidad a largo plazo de los arreglos de seguridad), introduce cambios substanciales en la API y ABI del navegador. Por lo cual, las aplicaciones que dependen de estas APIs (por ejemplo, los plugins del navegador) necesitan también ser actualizados. Las versiones actuales de los plugins para Firefox funcionan con el navegador de Web de Seamonkey.

  • Desde Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4, tanto el navegador de web Firefox como el cliente de correo Thunderbird han sido actualizados a la versión 1.5.x. Se les recomienda a los usuarios de Firefox 1.0.x y Thunderbird 1.0.x realizar la transición a la versión 1.5.x , ya que la versión 1.0.x no será mantenida por Mozilla Foundation y subsecuentemente no habrá soluciones oficiales de errores y seguridad.

    Tenga en cuenta que la actualización Firefox 1.5.x introduce cambios significativos en las API y ABI del navegador. Por lo cual, las aplicaciones que dependen de estas APIs (por ejemplo las extensiones) también podrían necesitar actualizaciones.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 incluye un lanzamiento previo de la tecnología gcc-4.1. Se le recomienda a los usuarios obtener mayor información y proporcionar retroalimentación sobre la tecnología previa utilizando Bugzilla en la siguiente URL:

    Note que este lanzamiento previo de gcc-4.1 no es soportado para ser usado en entornos de producción, y que la interfaz y las APIs de gcc-4.1 están sujetas a cambios durante la fase previa de la tecnología. Se planea incluir un lanzamiento completamente soportado de gcc-4.1 en una versión futura de Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 añade las capacidades WPA (Acceso Wi-Fi Protegido) a los componentes del sistema base, incluyendo el kernel y las utilidades inalámbricas como iwconfig y iwlist. Las tarjetas inalámbricas que soportan WPA en Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 son las tarjetas Intel Pro/Wireless 2100, 2200 y 2915. Los dispositivos 2200 y 2915 requieren una actualización firmware, la cual está disponible en el paquete actualizado ipw2200-firmware en el CD de aplicaciones de Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4.

  • Las interfaces Bonded Ethernet eran capaces de elegir aleatoriamente un destino esclavo basándose únicamente en las direcciones MAC de la fuente y el destino para los modos de vinculación balance-xor (mode 2) y 802.3ad (mode 4). Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 añade ahora la capacidad de computar la interfaz del destino esclavo basado en el IP de la fuente y el destino y los puertos Layer 4 (TCP/UDP) de la fuente y el destino.

  • El procesamiento de Listas de Control de Acceso (ACL) fue añadido al servidor NFS en Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4. Este soporte está pensado para ser utilizado con clientes NFS v3 o posteriores. No está pensado para ser usado en clientes NFS v2. Un cambio para reforzar esta restricción ha sido añadido al servidor NFS en Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4

Notas sobre el Kernel

Esta sección cubre aspectos relacionados con el kernel de Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 .

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 incluye el arreglo de un problema en la actualización anterior con el soporte de más de 16 procesadores en sistemas AMD Opteron.

  • Ahora se dispone de soporte para el chipset puente sur Intel I/O Controller Hub (ICH8).

    Nota

    Si su sistema está utilizando el controlador ICH8 SATA y el modo IDE está establecido para el controlador en la BIOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 no reconocerá los dispositivos añadidos.

    Para solucionar este problema, active el controlador ICH8 en modo AHCI desde la BIOS. Red Hat solucionará este problema en un lanzamiento posterior de Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

  • Ahora se dispone de soporte para procesadores AMD Opteron Revision G (RevG)

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 incluye soporte para AMD Opteron RevF MCE. La revisión F de procesadores AMD Opteron añade soporte para contadores de límites MCE para DRAM. Estos contadores le permiten al usuario con acceso root especificar límites de corrección ECCs que puede ser tomado de los controladores DRAM antes de que un MCE sea emitido. Esta funcionalidad le permite a los administradores de grandes sistemas de servidores ignorar errores ECC poco frecuentes causados por radiación cósmica; sin embargo, los administradores serán alertados a través de mecanismos MCE cuando un chip de DRAM falle.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 presenta una actualización de la implementación OpenIB.org Infiniband a la versión 1.0. Debido al desarrollo en curso del soporte OpenIB en la comunidad de código abierto, la implementación OpenIB.org Infiniband es considerada una tecnología previa en Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4.

    OpenIB 1.0 permite un soporte de hardware mayor, tal como ipath en AMD64 y Intel® EM64T, mthca en ppc64 (con excepción de iseries), y ehca en todas las plataformas ppc64. OpenIB 1.0 permite además un dispositivo de capa superior (iser, el dispositivo iSCSI-over-IB).

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 soporta más de 184 líneas de petición de interrupción (IRQs). Esta solución de error le permite a los sistemas con 128 ranuras PCI tener dispositivos PCI de función múltiple.

    Nota

    Los módulos ioctl de Qlogic y Emulex (qioctlmod, lpfcdfc) no son cargados automáticamente. Antes de usarlos, necesitará utilizar el comando modprobe para cargarlos.

  • Versiones anteriores de Adaptec Storage Manager (ASM) causarán el siguiente mensaje en el sistema de registro:

  • El dispositivo Emulex lpfc proporciona el siguiente parámetro que controla el número de segundos en que el dispositivo

    La x en hostx representa el número HBA. El valor por defecto es 30. En algunos casos, la operación de software de anti-fallos multiruta mejora cuando este valor es reducido en 10 segundos.
