This file is about the build process and oddities in it. 1) The rx1600 w/o MP (Manegement Processor) doesn't work on original kernel, so i've forced to build this installation with custom patched kernel which is my current *EC* line of kernel mods. So the kernel is 2.6.9-5.0.3.101.EC and the 2.6.9-5.0.3.EC is in the /EXTRA/ on the DVD-image. It's kind of only way to make it working during installation. If preferred, one must install the 'official kernel' from /EXTRA/ after installation. I am tryly sorry, but i just can't left something on uninstallable state while i do have a fix for that. 2) as of my *EC* line of 'adcanced kernels' does have anyway XFS enabled, this is available during the installation process. It's something that isn't enabled by default, but must be enabled like ELILO: linux xfs if XFS is wanted to be available during installation process. This is HIGHLY UNSUPPORTED as i am not even sure myself still if that filesystem is working aOK. Too little testing hours. It's just that when those userspace utilities are available during image building process, those are enabled. 3) I took some packages from previous builds with older compilers etc. The oprofile just won't compile anymore with latest packages, so it's included from my beta-stage builds. All the rest is compiled with release level gcc + binutils + etc. The whole release is once build against iself, so it's baselined there. 4) All the included binaries is IA-64 only. There is no IA-32 binaries included or used on build process. It's clean 64bit distribution and is in NO way compared to it's 'real thing'. I haven't actually even seen the list of files included on 'real thing'. 5) There is no CD-images. If someone doesn't have DVD-drive on their ia64-box, one could just burn the images/boot.iso and do network install. If someone doesn't have DVD-burner, it's definetly time to buy one (you could afford a Itanium2 box, so you could afford the DVD-burner too :) I am not even sure if i can anymore say 'Red Hat', but anyway. Red Hat makes good work on their Enterprise Linux. So if you need real support, please buy the 'real thing'. This is community effort and hobby for me, so support is 'best effort' based and no one can demand any support for this release. That's about it Regards, Your ia64 maintainer, Pasi Pirhonen
